Unity Health’s sports medicine program is the rehab department’s community service outreach. The program gives schools a service they normally can’t provide. The staff is available to every school in our service area to give training tips, provide safety education, assess injured athletes, and make treatment recommendations.
The sports medicine program also offers onsite sports medicine coverage for various local sporting events and provides pre-participation physical examinations to area high school athletes. For the safety of all people at outdoor sporting events, our staff uses Storm Hawk weather monitoring system. This handheld system shows current weather radar and lightening strikes, so informed decisions may be made competition delays or cancellations.
In conjunction with local orthopedic physicians, the sports medicine program conducts a Monday sports injury clinic during the regular football season. The sports injury clinic is held on the second floor of the Unity Health Surgery Center at 1:00 p.m. The injury clinic is available to any junior or senior high athlete with game-related injuries.
